Syllabus for 1st Quarter

Our focus for 1st quarter will be Scientific Inquiry, Technological design, Atmosphere, Weather, Climate and Air Pollution.

1st week - Students will be introduced to classroom expectations and procedures.  We will take a few days to get to know one another by each student developing their own Fantasy Island.  They will be on display so others will have a chance to see where each student would like to live in an ideal world. We will introduce some of the basics to the language of science.  This should enhance each students ability to read science. 

2nd week - Students will work though part of an activity called Super Scientist.  This will continue our theme of learning the language of science.  We will begin using the book with Chapter 1 and review what Science is and how we do science.  Our topic will focus on observations and inferences.

3rd week - We will begin to look more closely at the Scientific Method.  Later in the week we may do some inquiry science outside.  You can ask your child about our activities as we do them, but I am not going to give away any answers here. 

4th week - Our focus will be on the atmosphere.  We will be asking all sort of questions about what is above our Earth, how it impacts us, how we impact it, and how we can keep it clean.

5th-7th weeks - Althought we have already taken a look at the weather as it occurs in our atmosphere we will begin to examine weather events and their causes.  Students will do some research on particular events and we hope to develop a project using i-movies with our research.

8th-9th weeks - Our focus will be on Air Quality.

2nd Quarter instruction will be all about Human Body Systems

3rd Quarter studies will include genetics, dominance, and human genetics

4th Quarter goals will include simple machines, motion, and Newton's Laws

Parents if you have concerns please call the school and set up a conference with the  Team teachers.  We have time between 12:45 and 1:50 p.m. to see our parents on most days. Together we can accomplish great things!
