New classroom management procedures for 2011- 2012

Particihavior Chart (new word created in music class)

Classroom participation and behavior will be monitored by moving a clip up or down on color coded note value papers.  A Whole note is where the class wants to be when their teacher arrives to pick them up.  An eighth note (4 steps down, is where the class wants to not be when their teacher arrives.)  This is exactly what the teachers have in their room except I add the note values.

We are finally passing off Recorder Karate Belts in class.  Fifth grade students will be required to work in small groups helping each other.  They will play in small groups to earn their belts.  I do not require students to play solos for tests.  Please encourage them to practice every night after they do their homework.

2nd - 5th Grades: URGENT!  5th graders will soon hold an interview with Rowan County's Neil Wilkinson and make a video of him singing the National anthem for all of the Hurley student body to learn about from years to come!  Stay tuned.

The Music Educators Association has challenged us to teach our students the words to the National Anthem. Studies show that 75% of Americans do not know the words to the Star Spangled Banner. The majority of students know a portion of the first verse (there are three), but most of them can not write out the words or even recite them without stumbling or repeating phrases that they already used. Please help with this at home. After all, you want your child to be confident when they sing at that baseball game!
