New as of 5/12/09Tiger TeamWelcome to the Tiger Team! This page will be your source for Tiger news in Language Arts and Social Studies. I will update this page once a week to keep students and parents informed of our weekly plans, goals, and assignments. Keep in mind, though, that these are only plans and they may change based on classroom pacing and needs. This week in Language Arts we will continue our unit on poetry. Students will eventually be creating a poetry book, complete with about ten-fifteen poems. At the end of this week, students will have created at least a metaphor poem, a persona poem, a acostic poem, and a cinquain poem. The Cinquain poem is for homework on Tuesday. On Thursday we will take a vocabulary quiz with the words from our red literature book. Students have the opportunity to earn extra credit this week by earning three blue ribbons on studyisland.com. When they log in, they should see my class and two assignments for my class they can work in. This week in Social Studies we will continue our study of the Cold War with the Vietnam War. Students should have a packet on the Vietnam War that will be essential in preparing for the test on Friday. For homework on Tuesday, students must write a paragraph from the perspective of either a hawk or a dove, arguing their position on the Vietnam War. Students will bring home a permission slip to view the movie Pearl Harbor. The movie is an excellent companion to our study of WWII, and I chose to hold off on showing the movie until after EOGs. Students will have to write a poem after viewing the movie. Ms. Nay |
