Art at Bradford St.

Yearbooks will be going on sale in November. The yearbooks will be $15.00 until on January 29^th. They will go up to 18.00 after January 29^th.  You can order them on-line as well at  http://jostensyearbooks.com?REF=A01075549 -  If you have any photos for the yearbook please send them in with your student on a cd, labeled with event and the photographers name. Literature week meeting for parent volunteers will be on Nov. 18th and Dec. 17th at 1pm in the art room.  We will be designing and coming up with ideas to celebrate Literature the last week in January.  If you are interested in helping contact Mrs. Boland at boland@ccs.k12.de.us

Thank you to the Delaware Art Museum for helping with the cost of the field trip for the Uppers on Nov. 12th!

4^th and 5^th grade Civil War presentations at Bradford from the Delaware History Museum on Nov. 16^th. This went very well please ask your student what they learned!

Grades 2-5 are going to Winterthur Museum for a study on Colonial to Civil war American Portraits from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Yuletide in Victorian times on Dec 21^st (2^nd and 3^rd) and Dec 22^nd (4^th and 5^th grade).

December 2^nd will be the first day of 4^th and 5^th grade Art Club.  Look for the permission slips the week before Thanksgiving Break.

6^th and 7^th grade are studying medieval art work and its influence on artwork in other generations. We look at how Symbolism tells a story in art. We are completing Gargoyles, creating graphite drawing of a story with symbols and creating a cross stitch artwork with symbols used during the medieval times. We will then go into the wonderful Renaissance art! Da Vinci and Raphael will be the focus for the coming month.

4^th and 5^th grade we are completing our self portrait study based on several famous artist self portraits. In November we will be looking at portraits and the story telling techniques used by numerous Artists including John Smibert, John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, and Samuel F. B. Morse. We will also be developing a cell painting based on their  own cells. We will then be looking at the Civil War and the art connected to it. Photography, painting and printing will be the focus in the Civil War art study.

2^nd and 3^rd grade students will be creating a life size human body with the digestive system mapped out focusing on line, shading and the digestive system terms.  We will then be looking at how and why artists create portraits. We will be looking at Artist like John Smibert, John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, Charles Peale and Samuel F. B. Morse. We will then start our Egyptian and Chinese art study.

1^st grade is looking at the many ways to illustrate a story. They are creating a chalk drawing, collage and watercolor painting this coming month. We will be reading and studying Eric Carle, Jack Ezra Keats, and Faith Ringgold. We will also be discovering how to make and why artists use sketchbooks. In December we will be looking at how and what people celebrate during the winter months all over the World.
