The Auction is Over!

Thank you to all the fabulous volunteers who helped out with the auction.  Parents helped out by moving furniture, wrapping items, soliciting friends and families for donations, matting art, arranging flower centerpieces...the list goes on.  The evening would not have been as successful as it was, had it not been for you.  Thank you.

REMINDER:  If you were unable to check out on Saturday night, we have your won items.  Please stop by Raskob and pick up your goodies asap.  The school year is almost over:)

SPRING CLEAN-UP THANK-YOUS!

On a painfully hot Sunday, we had 11 wonderful adult volunteers show up to work their hearts out, and about as many Raskob students- who worked a bit and played a lot. I won't list names, because there are a few I didn't know, and in the heat we were too disorganized to put out a sign-in list.

Our major accomplishments were:

the repair and staking of the barrier fabric underneath the blue playground mulch under the playground structure, the cleanup of 99% of the little mulch pieces that had scattered all over the gravel parts of the school entrance area, and the redistribution of the mulch from the edges where it tends to accumulate, back towards the center of the play structure area where it provides a safety cushion.

  •  the sweeping and removal of all the leaves and trash that had accumulated around the trash can area beneath the outer stairs;
  •  and the weeding of a good portion of last summer's new plantings, along the stairs leading up to the office.

All Clean up Day volunteers!

We are in need of push brooms, and leaf rakes. If you have either of these items please put your name on them and bring them for clean up day!

Thank you

Last Day of School                   June 9th (12:00pm Pick Up)

 Hey everyone,

I don't know about you, but as a parent new to Raskob this year, I have very often felt a in the dark about so many things that go on here. Take the turkey trot.  Or the MLK service day (which I expected to be a school holiday).  Or how about student evaluations .. how often they are given and what they're about? Or understanding Raskob's interdependent relationship with HNU and how that affects the kids and families at Raskob? Or who is the teacher advisory and what does the advisory part mean? etc., etc.

I think you get my drift.

Well, the Raskob board is beginning to address the issue.

If an effort to make families new to Raskob feel welcome and their transition to the school a bit easier, we are asking for parent volunteers to act as buddies to incoming families.  At the very least, this would involve contacting the new family at least once during the summer - perhaps arranging a get-together/playdate, and checking in about what to expect the first few weeks of school, etc. -- and, in general, being an accessible resource.

I hope that you will say "yes" to being a buddy.

Many thanks,

Alison Heyman
(Elliot Lenik's mom)

PS.  The "welcoming committee" is a new entity at Raskob.  Please share any ideas you may have about how you'd like to see it work.

Auction Night is Almost Here!!!

Here are a couple reminders:

1) If you haven't already done so, please return your rsvp from the invitation. There is a limited number of scholarships for this event.  If you cannot afford the ticket, please send in your rsvp and indicate that you would like a scholarship.  WE WANT EVERYONE THERE!

2) If you have not already done so, please consider something you can donate to the auction.  Parents have donated everything from summer cabins and dinner parties, to leftover party favors!  Ask your friends to donate.  There is no such thing as a small donation!

3) We are still looking for volunteers for the day and night of the auction.  We need help with set up/clean up, check out, catering, and several other activities.  Please contact Jessica Baiocchi asap if you are interested in helping (510-436-1278 or Baiocchi@hnu.edu).
