Dear parents and guardians,

I want to say how much I enjoy teaching your children at Campus Community School. I love being able to teach your children computer applications, maintenance, research methods, Internet safety, integration, business, installing hardware and software and much more.

1st Trimester:

All students are currently learning how to use Microsoft Office (M.O.) Professional 2007. We will also be having group discussions on Internet Safety, Cyber Bullying and Chat Rooms.

6/7’s– Are learning how to manipulate Microsoft Word and Power Point in M.O. 2007. They are currently working on a writing piece titled, "All About Me". I will be monitoring and documenting how each student types. This will help me determine their typing strength before introducing them to a typing program.

Business Professionals of America (BPA): Meet Monday and Tuesdays from 1:40-2:30.

The Middle School level BPA consists of 6th,7th and 8th graders. I will be meeting with the 6th and 7th graders and Ms. Smith at the high school will be working with the 8th graders. They will be working on their computer, competition and professional skills while learning the basics in Business, Finance and Marketing.

Media Arts Electives: Meet Wed., Thurs., and Fri. from 1:40 to 2:30. 6 week elective.

The Media Arts students are creating T-Shirt designs in Art Explosion T- Shirt Factory Deluxe. I am impressed with their designs! Please review their work when they bring their T-shirts home. If your child hasn't brought in a T-shirt please do so before this elective ends.

4/5’s– Are currently learning how to manipulate Microsoft Word and Power Point 2007. They are currently working on creating a Power Point titled, "All About Me". They love adding graphics, sound clips, animation and  word art to their slide shows.

2/3’s– Are learning how to use Microsoft Word 2007 and all of the features. They have also been playing in Microsft Power Point and learning the basic features. I gave them time to explore Power Point and share what they discovered with other classmates. Great class collaboration! This week they are going into Mightybook.com. This is a great site to enhance your childs reading skills.

1st grade– Your children are working hard learning how to sign on to the computers, but they are mastering this skill. They have worked in Microsoft Word typing their names and remember to use the Shift button to capitalize the first letter in their first and last names. Last week they opened Internet Explorer and learned what a Home Page was and what Links do. They researched different types of animals by using a Search Engine. This week they will be in Mighty Books reading Pirate stories in preparation for Pirate day this Friday.

If your child wants to keep their work I suggest purchasing a flash/thumb drive. This is a device that plugs into the USB port of your computer and is considered the E or F drive when saving. You can find these devices at Wal-Mart, Target or Staples. They run around $10-15 for a 512MB, $15-20 for a Gig. If you have trouble finding or purchasing a device please feel free to e-mail or call me at CCS.

Please visit the CCS website at www.campuscommunityschool.com

Here at CCS we recycle old cell phone and empty ink cartridges. A drop off box is located at the Bradford street office and the Computer Lab.

Please feel free to volunteer to help in the Computer Lab. Your child's teacher has a specials schedule.

Please read my flash cards for Computer Safety advice!

If you have any questions please e-mail me at harwood@ccs.k12.de.us or call 302.736.3300 ext.113
