Dear parents and guardians,

I want to say how much I enjoy teaching your children at Campus Community School. I love being able to teach your children computer applications, maintenance, research methods, Internet safety, integration, business, installing hardware and software and much more.

2nd Trimester:

All students will be visiting a wonderful Math website called Math Tools. The web site is listed on my links page.

6/7’s–will be learning how to input information into Microsoft Excel and then create graphs. We will discus how they can use use Excel in the workforce and future assignments. Students will learn how to program a plan, try their plan and execute it in Turtle Geometry. Students will also be learning APA writing style. Lastly they will also be introduced to a keyboarding program called Type to Learn.

Business Professionals of America (BPA): Meet Monday and Tuesdays from 1:40-2:30.

The Middle School level BPA has finished designing their pin entries for the "Lights, Camera, Action. Making it Big" contest. Next they will be preparing for a state competition in February that will be held at the Sheraton in Dover, De. More info will be sent home when a firm date is known.

Media Arts Electives: Meet Wed., Thurs., and Fri. from 1:40 to 2:30. 6 week elective.

The Media Arts students are creating T-Shirt designs in Art Explosion T- Shirt Factory Deluxe. I am impressed with their designs! Please review their work when they bring their T-shirts home. If your child hasn't brought in a T-shirt please do so before this elective ends.

4/5’s– Will be learning Excel basics and graph creations. They will also be exploring percentages and fractions using pie charts in Math Tools. The department of Technology and Information (DTI) came and presented to our 4/5 students about Internet safety. I will integrate Internet safety into all grade levels.

2/3’s– Will be learning how to use the laptop cart that is located on their floor. Each student will be learning how to properly use each laptop and its applications. They will also be using Geoboard to illustrate area, perimeter, and rational number concepts in Math Tools.

1st grade– Students will maintain knowledge in M.O.2007 applications. They will also learn how to navigate through Math Tools and play the Patterns and Geoboard games.

If your child wants to keep their work I suggest purchasing a flash/thumb drive. This is a device that plugs into the USB port of your computer and is considered the E or F drive when saving. You can find these devices at Wal-Mart, Target or Staples. They run around $10-15 for a 512MB, $15-20 for a Gig. If you have trouble finding or purchasing a device please feel free to e-mail or call me at CCS.

Please visit the CCS website at www.campuscommunityschool.com

Here at CCS we recycle old cell phone and empty ink cartridges. A drop off box is located at the Bradford street office and the Computer Lab.

Please feel free to volunteer to help in the Computer Lab. Your child's teacher has a specials schedule.

Please read my flash cards for Computer Safety advice!

If you have any questions please e-mail me at harwood@ccs.k12.de.us or call 302.736.3300 ext.113

Thank you and have a great day!!
