Spanish Class

 NOTE: HOMEWORK IS DUE ON THE FOLLOWING SPANISH CLASS.

From class on Wednesday, May 5th:

7th Grade - you have a TEST next Wednesday, May 12th.

8th Grade - no homework - great job on your test!

From class on Wednesday, April 28th:

8th Grade - you will have a test on conjugating the verb SER using the chart from your vocabulary word list.  You will also need to know your vocabulary words. There will be no word banks this time - so STUDY.

7th Grade: Learn your vocabulary words from the last test!  Some of you didn't study.  You will have a test on conjugating AR verbs on May 12th.

 

April 21st Class:  no homework or vocabulary for 7th and 8th grades. We'll continue our conjugation exercises and try to squeeze in one more test before the end of the year.

7th Grade - April 14th:  Study the following vocabulary words, which we worked with in class.  You will have a quiz on Wednesday, April 21st.

Dibujar = to draw

correr = to run

practicar = to practice

practicar deportes = to practice sports

bailar = to dance

nadar = to swim

usar = to use

usar la computadora = to use the computer

cantar = to sing

ver = to watch (note: irregular verb)

ver la tele = to watch television

montar = to ride

montar en bicicleta = to ride on a bicycle

hablar = to speak

escribir = to write

pasar = to pass

pasar tiempo con amigos = to pass time with friends

tocar = to play

tocar la guitarra = to play the guitar

patinar = to skate

comer = to eat

jugar = to play

compartir = to share

estudiar = to study

leer = to read

caminar = to walk

comprar = to buy

escuchar = to listen

llegar = to arrive


 From class: The above words are infinitives - they end in the standard AR, ER and IR common verb endings.  They can be coupled with words like "me gusta" to create sentences describing what you like to do.  "No me gusta" is used with infinitives to describe what you don't like to do.

8th Grade: From class on April 14th - no homework or new vocabulary.  Great job on your quiz on adjectives used with "ser".

8th Grade: Class on March 31st - Here are your vocabulary words for class on April 14th:

artistico/a= artistic

atrevido/a =bold

deportista =athletic (both masculine and feminine end in “a”).

estudioso/a= studious

gracioso/a =funny

impaciente =impatient

simpático/a =nice

inteligente= intelligent (note: adjectives that end in “e” describe both masculine andfeminine nouns).

ordenado/a =tidy

paciente = patient

presezoso/a= lazy

reservado/a =reserved

serio/a  = serious

sociable =sociable

talentoso/a= talented

trabajador/dora= hard working

7th Grade - October 7th

You have a test next week, October 14th.  Your homework is to study.  Below is the material you need to know -

Adjectives must agree in gender and singular/plural with the noun they describe.

Noun = casa (house)                     Adjective = rojo (red)

I have a red house = Tengo una casa roja

 

Noun = ojo (eye)    Adjective = negro (black)

I have two black eyes = Tengo dos ojos negros

For your test:  Study “The, a and some” for each gender, singular and plural.   Know how to change adjectives to match the noun being described.

 

8th Grade: (homework assignment #5)

You need to conjugate 3 verbs that end in "AR" for plural pronouns.  Here is the chart we did in class, which also matches your handout:

Yo (I)= necesito

 

Nosotros = (we ,m)        = necesitamos

Nosotras = (we ,f)

Tú ( you familiar) = necesitas

 

Vosotros = (you all ,m) SPAIN only = necesitais

Vosotras =  (you all ,f) SPAIN only

Usted (you formal)

Él = (he)                   =  necesita

Ella = (she)

Ustedes (uds.) = (You all)

Ellos = (they ,m)                        = necesitan

Ellas = (they ,f)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Other verbs  you might want to try are: hablar (to speak) cantar (to sing) caminar (to walk).

Progress reports were handed out. If you like your grade, get your report signed and return it.  If you don't like your grade, you may hand in missing work or fix poorly done work and hand it in October 14th. I will give you an updated progress report to have signed.

7th Grade:

Homework: Due on October 7th. (homework assignment #3).

Write 10 things in Spanish that you have or that describe you using the word Tengo, with nouns and adjectives.  For example, Tengo casa amarilla  = I have a yellow house.

Translate your sentences.  Make sure your gender, singular and plurals match.

 

Vocabulary:

Tener = to have

Tengo = I have

Colors:

Red = rojo/a/s

Orange = anaranjado/a/s

Yellow = Amarillo/a/s

Green  = verde/s

Blue= azul/es

Purple= morado/a/s

Black=negro/a/s

White = blanco/a/as

Brown = marrón/ex

Maroon = guinda/s

Silver = plateado/a/s

Gold = dorado/a/s

Homework:  Due October 7th:  Pick 3 verbs to conjugate for just the SINGULAR prounouns (I, He/she, You).

See examples at the end of this posting.  Translate your verbs. BRING BACK YOUR SIGNED SPANISH TEST.

 

This chart should be in your notes along with these two verbs:

Quierer = to want

Usted (ud.) = you (formal)

USE THIS SECTION TO HELP WITH YOUR HOMEWORK.

To conjugate a verb that ends in AR or ER, take off the last 2 letters and replace them as follows for singular pronouns:

 

NecesitAR  = take off the AR

 

Necesito = I need  (replace the AR with an O)

Necesita = he / she needs  (replace the AR with an A)

Necesita = you need  (replace the AR with an A)

 

QuierER = take off the ER

Quiero = I want (replace the ER with an O)

Quiere = he / she wants  (replace the ER with an E)

Quiere = you want  (replace the ER with an E)

Find 6 nouns - 3 of them feminine gender and 3 masculine gender.

Use the table below to write each variation of the noun.

Example:  noun = mesa (table)

la mesa = the table

las mesas = the tables

una mesa = a table

unas mesas = some tables.

10 sentences using the handout I gave you -- if you LOST your handout, here is a copy you can print at home.  The 10 sentences must be compound sentences using one of the LINK words (pero, o, y porque). Create the sentences using Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 words and words from the vocabulary for this week.  For example:  Necesito ir al banco, pero ella necesita ir al trabajo.  (That means "I need to go to the bank, but she needs to go to work).

Here is the vocabulary for this week:

Find 10 nouns using spanishdict.com or a Spanish/English dictionary.  Write the translation and the gender of the noun.

  

8th Grade - write 10 sentences using the handout I gave you in class.  Each sentence needs to have a word from group 1, group 2, and group 3.

8th Grade - due on Wednesday, September 9, 2009:  (Homework assignment #1)

10 sentences - (5 using Quiero and 5 using Necesito).  You may also use "no" quiero or no necesito if you'd like.    DO NOT use the words from Group 3 on your handout.  You should use the website www.spanishdict.com to look up words for your sentences.  Look up nouns (objects or locations).

This assignment counts for 10% of your Spanish homework grade.  If you don't turn it in, this means the homework portion of your spanish grade can be 90% AT THE MOST.  Homework counts for 50% of your Spanish grade.
