Courses I teach for first semester 2009-2010:

Basic TV / Video Production

Room 175 & 179

Students taking this course will be responsible for producing the morning announcements (daily) for the school. They will be working out of the TV studio and the Communications Room 179. The students will also be learning the basics of video production and applying them to various projects such as commercials and public service announcements.

Course Objectives:

·        Develop an understanding of the role of video and related technologies to societal change and the environment

·        Assess the careers related to video production

·        Recognize the influence of media on American life

·        Develop an understanding of video production and editing in relation to the world of communication technology

·        Develop additional skills in problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork

·        Produce the daily morning announcements using the television studio

 

Grading:

Participation 40%

Quizzes (including in class worksheets) 20%

Projects 40%

Advanced TV / Video Production

Room 179

Students in this course work as part of a team on more advanced video projects. During the first quarter we focus on a music video project where the students take a song and create the video to go with it. During the second quarter, we focus entirely on the film making (movie making) process. Students write their own movie scripts in the correct format and then proceed through the entire process.

Course Objectives:

·        Develop an understanding of the role of video and related technologies to societal change and the environment

·        Compare the relationship between technology and other disciplines

·        Assess the careers related to video production

·        Recognize the influence of media on American life

·        Develop an increased understanding of video production and editing in relation to the world of communication technology

·        Develop additional skills in problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork

 

Grading:

Participation (every 2 weeks) 30%

Quizzes (including in class worksheets) 20%

Projects 50%

Broadcast Journalism

Room 179

In this course, the students will be producing a television show that will be airing on the Community Voice Channel (CVC). The show will be a news show as well as an entertainment show for all students and parents. Other projects, such as Fox 61 news stories and a mini-documentary will also be completed.

Course Objectives:

·        Develop an understanding of the role of video and related technologies to societal change and the environment

·        Develop skills and experiences relative to pursuing further education

·        Compare the relationship between technology and other disciplines

·        Understand copyright laws and their implications in video production

·        Assess the careers related to video production

·        Recognize the influence of media on American life

·        Develop an increased understanding of video production and editing in relation to the world of communication technology

·        Develop additional skills in problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork

·        Develop communication and interpersonal skills related to working as part of a team

 

Grading:

Participation (every 2 weeks) 40%

Quizzes (including in class worksheets) 10%

Projects 50%
