Novels -  We began a nonfiction study of Jean Fritz books with the Revotionary War as the theme.  This unit will last until mid-winter break.  We will cover note-taking, sequencing, and main idea and details of nonfiction reading.

Students who make a 100 on the pretest do not take the test on Friday nor do they need to complete any homework

Students who miss only 2 on the prestest do not take the test on Friday but DO need to complete the homework and grade will be changed to 100 for the "test".

Students who miss 3 or more on the pretest MUST take the test on Friday and MUST complete the homework.

Spelling rule - when a word ends in silent e, drop the e when you add a suffix beginning with a vowel.

When a word ends in silent e, keep the e when you add a suffix beginning with a consonant.

Constitution- a written plan for government

 

Territory- land ruled by a national government but which has no representatives in the

                  Government

 

Ordinance- a law

 

Federal- a system in which the states share power with the central government

 

Republic- a government in which the citizens elect leaders to represent them

 

Ratify- to accept

 

Compromise-a settlement in which both sides give up something they want

 

Democracy- a government in which the people have the power to make political

                     decisions

Checks and Balances- A system that lets each branch of government limit the power of

                                 the other two

Cabinet- A group chosen by the President to help run the executive branch and give

Fractions - Test will be Wednesday Feb. 15.  We will then begin decimals.

 

Science/Social Studies SS4H4, S4P3, S4CS8

  We began our next Social Studies unit - A New Nation.  We will learn how our Nation was formed. "We the People" task is due Feb. 14th.   This is to be completed entirely at home.  We will show the students examples to provide them with ideas on how to complete it.

"A New Nation" test will be on Friday Feb. 17th.
