Classroom Information

Reading:
Our focus in guided reading is fluency, retell, summarizing, and using expression and tone while reading. We continue to learn what the different genres of literature and writing are. This week we are working on Reader's Theaters (plays). Your child will have a part that they will read (not memorize) because we want them to work on expression and tone.

Spelling/Phonics-
Our focus this week is on long vowels. Focus on the CVCe, CV, and CVVC vowel patterns. Remember not all words will fit into these patterns. Please continue working on your child's HFW list.

Writing:
We have been working with Mrs. Fallis, our curriculum coach on writing small moment stories. We have been using the cheeseburger story or the five-finger story.
1. Beginning-who, what, when, where
2. Action #1
3. Action # 2
4. Action # 3
5. Ending- Tell a feeling

Math:
We have finished our addition unit in math. We will begin working on subtraction strategies. Continue practicing math facts. This week is +3!

Science/Social Studies:
We will continue to focus on citizenship in social studies. We will also discuss communities. We are also doing a unit on families.  In science we will begin to discuss animals in preparation for our zoo trip. We will study animal life cycles.

Extra Credit:

Bring in your complete family tree.

Remember to look over your child's Tuesday Folder and go over any areas of concern.
