Welcome to Current Science!!!


I am one of the 2 Science teachers on the 7th grade hall. I am teamed with Mr. Shadroui for Social Studies. We will each spend 2 weeks on an area of study, then we will switch subjects. I will teach and assess the learning before we switch subjects. This should help alleviate any stress over remembering information over a time period. 

We are beginning this school year with a study of the Scientific Method and Measurement. The NCSCS goals covered will be 1:06 gathering and organizing data from scientific investigation. We will also cover 1:05, estimation and the difference between precision and accuracy.

The 1st nine weeks our science focus will take us from the Scientific method to the study of weather and our atmosphere. This is competency goal 1 which covers composition and structure of the atmosphere to our impact as humans on the atmosphere. 

Your child will be given 2 workbooks. Both need to come with them every day to my class. We will use a textbook in class. I will provide all material and fact your child will need in any given area of study. Their job will be to pay attention and to study this material.

I will begin assigning Current Events on Sept. 4. This will be explained to your child and will be in place as a standing HW assignment every 2 weeks. They will need an article on something science...Earth, Life or Physical. They will write a brief summary of the article and give a 1 sentence reaction to the article. I also use Current Events as a way for students to earn extra credit. If they complete a current event they can earn 25 extra points. This is obviously one done not as the HW assignment.

Please bring your planner each day, notebook paper, a NB and pencil or pen. Your text will be kept in the room. If you ever need to check one out, or have need of a book, please let me know.
