Feelin' Good Mileage Club

2008-2009

     Feelin’ Good Mileage Club – At the end of April, students at Bostian had walked 3230 mile.  Second grade leads the way (1180 miles).  Kindergarteners have walked 975 miles. First graders have walked 940 miles, and Fourth Graders, 105 miles  One hundred eighty-five  students have completed five miles; one hundred seventy-three students have completed ten miles; .  The following  forty-three students have completed 25 miles or more:  from Mrs Goodman’s Kindergarten class –Nicholas, Lindsay, Kyle, Angelina,  Anna, Zack, Aunna, Salem, David, Terry, Caleb, , and Jordan; from Mrs DeBerardinis’s Kindergarten class – Andrew, Emily, Corie, German, Parker,  Sydney, Samuel, and Jeffrey; from Mrs. Hinshaws’s first grade class- Seth, Jadon, Aaron, Zachary and Nathaniel; from Mrs. Haff’s second grade class- Jasmin, Mitchell, Amy, Garrett, Joshua, Ryan, Chance, and Teolyn; from Mrs. Raynes’s second grade class – Cade, Brooklyn, Cheyenne, Abigayle, Matthew, Dakota, and Autumn; from Mrs. Monday’s second grade class – Elizebeth, and Alexis,; and from Mrs. Watt’s class – Carrillo.  Two students have completed 50 miles – Zachary (1^st) and Kyle (K).

Feelin’ Good Mileage Club – At the end of March,students at Bostian had walked 2650 mile.  Second grade leads the way (1005 miles).  First graders have walked 770 milesKindergarteners have walked 740 miles, and Fourth Graders, 105miles  One hundred eighty  students have completed five miles; onehundred sixty-six  have completed 10 miles.  The following  students have completed 25 miles or more:  from Mrs Goodman’s Kindergarten class –Kyle,Angelina,  Anna, Zack, Aunna, Salem,David, Terry, Caleb, and Jordan; from Mrs DeBerardinis’s Kindergarten class– Sydney, Samuel, and Jeffrey; from Mrs. Hinshaws’s first grade class- Zacharyand Nathaniel; from Mrs. Haff’s second grade class- Amy, Garrett,Joshua, Ryan, Chance, and Teolyn; from Mrs. Raynes’s second gradeclass – Cheyenne, Abigayle, Matthew, Dakota, and Autumn; from Mrs.Monday’s second grade class – Elizebeth, Alexis, and Steven; and from Mrs.Watt’s class – Carrillo.. .

At the end of January, studentsat Bostian had walked 1785 mile.  Secondgrade leads the way (705 miles). Kindergarteners have walked 535 miles.  First graders have walked 430 miles, and Fourth Graders, 105 miles  One hundred sixty-eight  students have completed five miles; onehundred eleven students have completed ten miles; .  The following nine students have completed 25 miles or more:  from Mrs Goodman’s Kindergarten class –Kyle,Angelina, and Anna; from Mrs DeBerardinis’s Kindergarten class – Sydney,Samuel, and Jeffrey; from Mrs. Hinshaws’s first grade class- Zachary; from Mrs.Haff’s second grade class- Amy; and from Mrs. Raynes’s second grade class –Cheyenne.

JANUARY 1 REPORT, students at Bostian had walked 1445 mile.  Second grade leads the way (515 miles).  Kindergarteners have walked 465 miles.   First graders have walked 350 miles, and Fourtht Graders, 260miles  One hundred fifty-one  students have completed five miles;eighty-nine students have completed ten miles; .  The following five students have completed 25 miles or more:  from Mrs Goodman’s Kindergarten class –Kyleand Anna; from Mrs. Hinshaws’s first grade class- Zachary; from Mrs. Haff’ssecond grade class- Amy; and from Mrs. Raynes’s second grade class – Cheyenne.  

DECEMBER 1 REPORT - Students have walked 1310 miles.  141 students have walked 5 miles and 78 have received a certificate for 10 miles.  Twenty- nine students have completed 15 miles and ten have completed 20 miles.  Kyle and Anna from Mrs. Goodman's class, Zachary from Mrs. Hinshaw's class, and Cheyenne from Mrs. Raynes class have completed 25 miles.  Kindergarteners have walked 455 miles, and second graders have walked 450 miles.

NOVEMBER 1 REPORT- 107 students had walked 5 miles and 51 had received a certificate for 10 miles.  Eight students had walked 15 miles and 2 had completed 20 miles. 

Second grade leads the way with a total of 275 miles from 32 walkers.  Kindergarten with 29 walkers is close behind with 255 miles.  First graders (31) walked 205 miles.  Fifteen fourth graders completed 105 miles.  Third and fifth have not participated.

At the end of September, thirty-eight students had walked 5 miles and 7 had received a certificate for 10 miles.  Kindergarten leads the way with 20 participants.

History  In November of 2006 the Rowan Roamers donated $400.00 to Larry Brown to promote walking and to establish a walking trail for the children at Bostian Elementary school in China Grove, North Carolina.  It was felt that investing in and promoting a healthy life style in our young children was a good place to start something that would last a life time.

The walking program was organized in November of 2006 and has been active since than. By the end of the 2006-2007 school year, more than half of the students at Bostian had participated, walking 2870 miles.

According to the Feelin’ Good Mileage Club here is how the walking program works.

Students walk on the school playground several times each week. The Mileage Marker Cards provided in the kit are checked every time a child completes a lap on the course. When recess ends, the students return their cards to their personal files (a copy is provided in the teacher packet). For each 5 miles/8 kilometers a child walks, the child is rewarded. Toe Tokens (bright colored plastic feet designed to be worn on shoe laces), certificates and a school display poster to sign are provided. All awards are designed to provide children with a sense of accomplishment, recognition and a source of positive image building. The children also learn responsibility, mathematics and record-keeping skills.

Feelin’ Good Mileage Club – At the end of 2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR, students at Bostian had walked 3765 mile.  Kindergarten leads the way (2205 miles).  First graders have walked 1125, and Fourth Graders, 380 miles.  A third grader had walked 30 miles, and second graders have walked 25 miles.  One hundred sixty-seven students have completed five miles; one hundred forty students have completed ten miles including all students in Kindergarten.  The following 61 students have completed 25 miles or more:  from Mrs. DeBerardinis’s class – Imer, Chance, Kevin, Robert, Matthew, Michael, Caroline; from Mrs. Hinshaw’s class –Zachary, Jacob, William, James, Olivia, Payton, Derek, Nathaniel, Jordan, Adeline, Seth, Jace, Shakia, Gracelyn, and Jadon; from Mrs. Goodman’s class- Thomas, Joshua, Caitlin, Kate, Carlton, Kayla, Abraham, Shelby, Zach, Trevor, Landon, Anthony, Cameron, Justin, Emma, Kendall, Maximus and Reid; from Mrs. Kimball’s class – Caleb; from Mrs. Haff’s class- Jasmin, Kate, and Amy; from Mrs. Luther’s class- Braxton, Kursten, Drew, Daniel, Wesley, Taylor, Bradley, Dakota, Autumn, and Ostyn; from Mrs. McDonald’s class – Amber, Peyton, and Kayla; and from Mrs. Barringer’s class – Savannah and Corey.   Having reached 50 miles are Zachary, Nathaniel, Derek, Gracelyn and William (Hinshaw), and Thomas, Trevor, Joshua, Zackery, Landon, Emma, and Caitlin (Goodman); Wesley, Taylor, and Dakota (Luther).  Derek, Thomas, Caitlin and Zachary reached 75 miles.  Zachary in Mrs. Hinshaw’s class is the top walker having walked 130 miles.
