Funds have been used to enhance learning through technology. We now have 34 Promethean ActivBoards installed in classrooms, the media center and in Computer Lab A; and a new MacBook/laptop lab housed in the media center. We also have nine sets of ActivExpressions that help students enjoy taking a quiz! The state-sponsored online computer test for eighth graders has been suspended. RSS eighth grade students are having their computer skills assessed during the school year using an assessment plan developed by RSS. Students will take a multiple choice test in the spring of 2012. Teachers and students are learning about and using our newest filtered search engine--Nettrekker. school.nettrekker.com Technology Integration ELA teachers collaborate with Mrs. Woodward, our Media Coordinator, to create meaningful learning centers in our media center. The web site incorporated in to the lessons: EDU 2.0. cgms.edu20.org Mrs. Teri Mills' 7th grade social studies students have completed an iMovie project. The topics are Hinduism and Buddhism. Many students are excited to use iMovie rather than Keynote for this project although a few say they prefer Keynote.Mr. Wohlgemuth's 6th grade social studies students are using the computer lab for European and South American country research. Mrs. Woodward has introduced the students to a fantastic website for the study of various countries: www.countryreports.com Mrs. Patti Miller's and Ms. Jessie Tinker's 7th grade science students were in the computer labs January 10-18 for a Human Body Systems project. Mr. Taylor's and Mrs. Romesburg's 8th grade science students researched river basins earlier this year. They checked out the laptops from the media center for use in their classrooms. They recently completed a Keynote element project. Mr. Kirk's and Mrs. Morris's students have been creating musical projects with Garage Band. The chorus students have been experimenting with piano-like keyboards that connect to the computers. Mrs. A. Miller's 21st Century classroom students use their laptops daily. Mrs. Miller incorporates several different web sites in to her lessons. The 8th grade math students especially like blogging at www.gaggle.net Her students also use other software such as Inspiration, PhotoBooth, iMovie, or Keynote. They also make podcasts that makes learning more fun! Ms. Simmerson--in collaboration with Ms. Kelly and Mrs. Woodward--planned a project for her 8th grade ELA students. Her students started a Big 6 project after Thanksgiving and will complete the Big 6 research assignment in January. Each student is researching the life of a famous person. Mrs. Huntley's 8th grade ELA students recently completed a similar project. Ms. Barnhardt's 8th grade social studies students will be blogging at www.gaggle.net in February.
