2010 is well under way! Second Quarter Report Cards have been sent home, and we have started second semester. The weather has been full of surprises, but we are still busily working on the skills that will help your child be prepared for first grade. Your support is more important than ever!
Reading: We continue to study one letter a week. We have covered S, M, R, T, B, N, V, C, P, F, G, and L. Your child should be able to recognize and write each letter and be able to tell the beginning sound it makes. We are also working on blending sounds together to make words and segmenting words into letter sounds. We have also learned the sight words my, like, a, and, to, the, and I. Please continue to practice these letter sounds and words with your child.
Math: We have been working on the numbers 1-10. Remember, your child will need to be able to count to 100 and recognize, write, and count out sets for numbers 1-30 by the end of kindergarten. Please practice at home. We are also working on a wide variety of other math skills, including sorting, graphing, and measurement. Science/Social Studies: We have certainly learned many new things about winter weather. We are currently studying Black History and enjoying some fun Valentine's Day activities.
Thanks for your continued support into second semester! Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Smith
