It's hard to believe our first quarter has ended and report cards have gone home! Thank you for attending conferences to discuss your child's progress. Your support is critical for a successful kindergarten year!
Reading: We have previewed the entire alphabet and are now studying one letter a week. We have covered S, M, R, T, B, and N. Your child should be able to recognize and write each letter and be able to tell the beginning sound it makes. We are also working on blending sounds together to make words and segmenting words into letter sounds. Our first to sight words are "my" and "like." Please continue to practice these letter sounds and words with your child.
Math: We have been working on the numbers 1-10. Remember, your child will need to be able to count to 100 and recognize, write, and count out sets for numbers 1-30 by the end of kindergarten. Please practice at home. We are also working on a wide variety of other math skills, including sorting, graphing, and shape recognition. Science/Social Studies: We have been studying fall weather as well as Thanksgiving. Children have enjoyed a wide variety of activities to learn more about Pilgrims, Native Americans, and Thanksgiving traditions.
Thanks for your continued support! Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Smith
