Dear Parents,
Welcome to 2nd grade. I am excited about starting a new year. We will be working with your students to help them grow in all areas. It will be an exciting year with lots of accomplishments.

Homework goes home on Monday and is due back on Friday. Students should read 20 minutes each night. Also, please do a five minute timed reading with your child each night that is actually five one minute readings of the same text. This will help to improve fluency. They will also have several spelling assignments for the week and at least one math page each week. Please work with your child on their homework to make sure they are practicing skills correctly.

*The school is asking parents to do timed reading each night with your child. This can be one of the books they have listed on their RAH (read at home) log. It takes 5 minutes. Time your child for one minute as they read a passage. Count the number of words read correctly. Then have them read the same passage again 4 more times and count the words read correctly. Hopefully they will read further and get a higher score each time. This will help with reading fluency.

Please check agendas for important information and behavior. Also please check Friday folders each week to see your child's progress. These should be signed and returned on Monday.
