GROW - DREAM - LEARN - SUCCEED

WELCOME TO MY WEB PAGE
This web page is to inform you of my position and dedication to your children at Mt. Ulla. I am committed to helping your child achieve success in Math and Reading. The students are working hard to meet their goal to be on grade level or above.

We are on a Journey to Success this year
to be our personal best!

"Success is happiness in your heart!

----This year my job has taken on a whole new role. I am inclusion only with 3rd -5th grade for Math. I am in each math class for 30 minutes every day.  I work with all students during math in small group and individual instruction.
----I also do Reading Conferencing with Mrs. Cloninger's class during independent reading time.
----Be sure to check out some of the educational links at the bottom of this page. You will find lots of games, printables, NC resources, practice EOG samples, math games, reading games.
--Please practice multiplication facts at home with your child. Knowing these facts is a valuable key to their future math success.
--Also, make sure your child is reading every night. Allow them to read to you and also read aloud to your child. No matter how old they are, they still enjoy being read to.
Reading Questions to Check Comprehension
1. Before you begin reading have your child look at the title and cover, then make predictions of what they think the story is about. 2. Who are the characters in the story? 3. Where and when does your story take place (the setting)? 4. What is the problem in the story and how is it being solved? 5. Does the story remind you of another story, something in your life, or something in the world (making connections)? 6. Why do you think the author chose to write this book? 7. Find a word and ask your child to use context clues to find the meaning. 8. What is the genre (style of writing) of your book?

--Students will be assessed on high frequency words. Third grade are assessed on 300 words, fourth grade 400 words and fifth grade 500 words. They need to be able to read and spell the word and use it in a sentence.
--You can also click on the flashcards at the top of this page.
