Welcome to Carpenter's Capers Dear Parents, Wow!! Time flies when you are busy learning. Half of first quarter passed so quickly. The students have worked very hard. So far we have had a sensational science experience-learning and understanding amazing adaptations of many animals-arachnids, praying mantis and hummingbirds. We will continue adaptations of other animals... owls and bats. All of these have special features that help them survive. North Carolina history will be a focal point for the remainder of first quarter and second quarter... lighthouses, pirates, coastal life and natural resources. We will cover points of interest throughout the three regions. During Math we will continue to review place value, comparing and ordering numbers and rounding whole numbers. We will be using these skills to enhance learning addition and subtraction The students will continue reading in a variety of texts from self-selected materials consistent with their independent reading level. As a group we will read from the basal reader and novels. Strategies and skills to increase comprehension will be stressed. Grammar will be taught daily to ensure to have a better understanding of writing. High frequency words will be reviewed in order to improve writing also. Looking forward to the lighthouse projects due before or by October 15th. Come by and have lunch with us anytime... your child likes for you to come. Thanks for all the healthy snacks most all of you have shared with the class. D. Carpenter |
