What's Happening in 5th Grade

Welcome to my classroom.  

Literacy Block:  We are beginning Theme 2 in our reading book.  In this theme, our focus will be "Give It All You've Got".  We will focus on what makes a successful person.  The Literature in this theme is comprised of autobiography, biography, and nonfiction articles.

Week of  Nov. 2- 6

Teaching Point:  How identify elements in poetry

Vocabulary Words: image; imagination; poem; rhyme; rhythm; stanza; speaker

Spelling Words: cord; chord; pray; prey;seam; seem; sole;  soul; piece; peace; role;roll; peel; peal; shone; shown; pain; pane; pole; poll;

Math:  This week we are working multiplying whole numbers; decimals and problem solving.

Social Studies:  Students are continuing the study of a state.

Writing:  We work daily on writing workshop and improving our writing skills.
