What's Happening in 5th Grade

Welcome to my classroom.  

Literacy Block:  We are beginning Theme 3 in our reading book.  In this theme, our focus will be Voices of the Revolution. We will focus on the importance of freedom and those who fought to preserve it.  The Literature in this theme is comprised of autobiography, biography, and nonfiction articles.

Week of  Nov. 16-20

Teaching Point:  How do I identify Author's view point?

Vocabulary Words:Each group will have their own set of vocabulary words in addition to the vocabulary  words below. 

Spelling Words: theater, actor, mirror, powder, humor, anger, banner, pillar, major, thunder, flavor, finger, mayor, polar, clover, burglar, tractor, matter, lunar, quarter

Math:  This week we will be working on division.

Science:  We will begin the study of Ecosytems

Writing:  We work daily on writing workshop and improving our writing skills.

Trace-  outline, list in steps

Analyze- break it down

Infer- read between the lines

Evaluate- Judge it (tell the good and bad)

Formulate- create put together

Describe- Tell about it

Support-  Back it up; give evidence

Explain- Teach me; Show me

Summarize- the short version

Compare-  How are they alike

Contrast- How are they different

Predict- What will happen in the future?
