Mrs. Carter and Ms. Goodman First Grade Knollwood Elementary School We are having an excellent year with our class. We are working hard to become better students every day. Language arts/reading- Closed syllable words, blends and digraphs (sh, ch, th, bl, sc, tr, etc), understanding what we read, asking questions about what we read, retelling story events in order Math- Place value (tens and ones) Social Studies- Maps and landforms Daily Class Schedule: 8:00-8:30 FUNdations 8:30-10:00 Language Arts 10:00-10:40 Writer's Workshop 10:40-11:10 Enhancements 11:10-12:05 Science/Social Studies 12:05-12:35 Lunch 12:40-1:10 Recess 1:10-2:25 Math Here are a few questions that will help your child as they are writing: Does my story make sense? Am I sounding out the words that I'm writing? Did I use correct capitalization, spacing, and punctuation? Did I focus on a "small moment" story? Did I include many details in my writing and illustration? Is my paper readable to others? Did I edit my paper to correct mistakes?  **REMINDERS** -Please check your child's Knightbook each night. -When you read a library book, please sign your name and the book's name on the correct day in the blue folder. Then, return it to school so your child may get a new book. Only one book is to be checked out at a time. -Please make sure your child completes their homework. -Read to your child--they enjoy it, even though they are reading on their own! IMPORTANT DATES: February 14- Valentines exchange (Please send these in when you can.) February 17- Library field trip for students (Parents, please come too!) February 23- First grade heart to heart Our enhancement schedule: Monday- Music Tuesday- Art. Wednesday- Guidance/Computer Thursday- Media Friday- P.E. *Lunch is from 12:05-12:35.
