NEWS We are half way through the novel The Devil's Arithmetic. To the best of our ability and within reason we are trying to let the students touch on the experience faced by the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Ask them what we have been doing. HAVE ATTACHED A PDF SUMMARY OF THE NOVEL BELOW. The novel TRACES events of the Holocaust and ANALYZES its effect on 1940's Europe and today. We will EVALUATE whether such a tragedy could happen today and DESCRIBE how. We will also INFER some attitudes that teenagers may hold about their grand parents. After reading the novel we will watch the film adaptation and COMPARE AND CONTRAST the film and the novel. When we are done with our study of the novel and the holocaust we will continue our study of Europe by discussing the cold war, the evolution of the European Union and today's Europe. We continue to use the twelve powerful words in our lessons and in our language. These words are Formulate, Describe, Support, Summarize, Infer, Compare, Contrast, Evaluate, Describe, Analyze, Trace and Predict. Ask your student about them and what they mean. The students are learning a song incorporating the words. It is cute and each one can demonstrate it a lot better than I can.
