WOW WHAT A GREAT THREE DAYS OF EUROPEAN PRESENTATIONS THE KIDS ARE GETTING SO MANY COMPLIMENTS FROM ADMINISTRATORS, OTHER TEACHERS AND ME. I AM SO PLEASED WITH THE EFFORT I HAVE SEEN. WE have been flying through European history skipping through many of the wars and much of the intrigue. We did stop to discuss the British defeat of the Spanish Armada, the French Revolution, and the unification of German. We discussed the industrial revolution and its effect on children. The students started their country projects on February 1. They had all they needed to research and prepare the presentation. We worked on the computers here at school for the better part of four days to help them prepare for their presentations. They had a rubric that was very specific as to the requirements of the project. This will be the major grade of the third quarter. As you know by now, we have started using our old beat up text book. The book is available online at ncjourneys.com. Click on the sixth grade text and then log in. The id is mrwsocialstudies and the password is cgms . This is where much of our weekend homework will come from. We will be reading a novel related to our study of the Holocaust and WWII. Some students will read the Diary of Anne Frank, others The Devils Arithmetic, others the Journal of Ben Ushida, and finally Number the Stars. These must be cared for and returned each day. Thanks for being interested in your student's school work and social studies.
