February 2010

Welcome to Mrs. Hough's web page.

We have made flash cards with the 12 Powerful Words and Foldables with the words, definitions, sentences, and questions. Your child should  be studying them.

Ask them to sing you the song and do the motions!  It's fun!

Larry Bell Words:

Trace- outline

Analyze- break it down

Infer- read between the lines

Evaluate- judge

Formulate- build and create

Describe- tell all about it

Support- back it up

Explain- tell why

Summarize- the short version

Compare- things that are alike

Contrast- things that are different

Predict- think about the future

Now we have developed our own list of 12 Words for 6th graders at CGMS:

Please work on saying and spelling these words correctly!

calculate                        conclude

effect                               affect

perspective                   generalize

classify                           interpret

demonstrate                 emphasize

illustrate                         mention

In Science we are starting our Unit on Rocks and Minerals.  Please encourage your child to read over their notes and study their vocabulary.  We are UNRAAVELING the Red Workbook pages and doing one Blue Workbook page for each section.  HOWEVER, if your child needs extra credit, they may do the other 2 pages of each section in the blue workbook to help pull up a low grade.  Thanks for all that you do to help your child be successful!

Reminders:
*Parents please remember to sign agendas daily with a full signature.  (Check to make sure homework has been done, don't just sign the book.)

*Our planning period is 1:15-2:45, if you need to call or come by for a conference.  The school number is 704-857-7038.

*Please check the homework hotline if you are absent to keep up with any missed assignments.  Directions for this are in the front of the agenda.
