January 2012 *HAPPY NEW YEAR* It is almost time for Report Cards to go out again. Please make sure your child stays on top of their assignments and turns in everything. I will be cutting off grades on Jan. 13th. All late/missing work must be to me by Friday. Please see that your child is prepared for class daily. The 2" binder should help keep them organized. They should have their green composition book (NB), green pocket folder, and their blue Science workbook (WB), in that binder. These things should be in class daily. Regular school supplies like pencils, pens, highlighters, etc...should also be in the Zipper Binder that they take to each class with their agenda and Starblazer Sheet. Make sure you have extra pencils for your child at home. These are NOT provided by the school and a lot of kids are borrowing from other children. Please sign the agenda daily, after you have looked over the assignments and know that your child has completed their work. Please remember that I expect all work to be turned in on time and to be completed. All classwork not finished, must be completed that night at home for homework. Reading Science Textbook pages can be counted for ELA Reading Log homework for Mrs. Safrit. Please write the pages read and the number of minutes read on her sheet. Reading Logs are due on Tuesdays. I do accept late work and will take 10 pts. off for every day it is late. A late grade is better than a "0". I do give extra credit assignments from time to time that you should encourage your child to do. (ex: extra workbook pages, bringing in items that we are studying about to share with the class, etc) We have been working on ecosystems and will be taking a test tomorrow on Ch. 14. The students have done very well working as a big group completing the study guide that was assigned. They should have all warm up work written down on the back of the study guides for you to see. Remember, vocabulary is a very important part of comprehension. Encourage your child to review their flashcards daily. Your child should stay focused and on task as they talk and work together to learn the given information. Studying at home and reviewing information covered in class is key to doing well on tests. Please call the school between 11:30 and 12:45 to speak to me during panning, if you have questions or concerns. (704-857-7038) I will be happy to help you and your child in anyway. Thanks again for all of your support as we work together for your child's success.
