Hello, Students and Parents! Welcome to English Studies. Mrs. Walker's Schedule Fall Semester 2009: 1st-English 4 2nd-Honors English 3 3rd-English 4 All students have the opportunity to exempt final exams in this course IF they have an A average with no more than three absences, a B average with no more than two absences, or a C average and no more than one absence. Make this your goal this semester! Honors English requires several readings outside of class. Students are given a few weeks notice prior to the date these readings should be completed for class assignments. Juniors will focus on permission forms and research components of the Graduation Project. Seniors will finalize portfolios and prepare for presentation of projects. This IS a graduation requirement for the RSS system. November 2-23: English 4 students will study the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Students were given a list of activities, projects and assignments that will be required throughout this study. We will read the play aloud and complete assignments throughout the unit, culminating in an essay, home video project, and test. Honors 3 students are required to have ETHAN FROME read by November 5. After the completion of assignments for this novel, we begin the study of transcendentalism with the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. The literature text and the play, "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail", will be utilized for this unit. |
