Janice Raper Hurley Elementary School, AIG Grades 4 - 5, Reading and Math Grade 3, Enrichment Grade 1 - Class Room Weekly Visits during 3rd Quarter Dream - Believe - Dare - Do!! Concept for the year: Relationships February 8 - 12 Our theme for this year is Dream, Believe, Dare, Do - the Disney Way! Walt Disney lived his life by setting goals, believing in himself, and accomplishing great things. What a week this has been!! Hopefully, we can attend a full week of classes this coming week. Little has changed on the weekly plans. Let's hope for sunshine and dry weather! We need to practice our play!! Good luck to Jessica!! She will represent our school at the unit wide Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 9 at RCCC at 6:00. I will be there to give her support from all of us!! Fifth Grade Reading/Language Arts: Most of our time will be spent practicing for our performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Parts and responsibilities have been given to all students. I have rewritten the play to be more student friendly. Hopefully, we will help our friends understand the play before they attend the Children's Theater Performance. Students will also have a worksheet to complete on the play. Fifth graders will present their foldable book reports to the class this week. We will start back using Caught 'Ya as a method to understand grammar rules. Fourth graders will begin a 2 week unit in Spelling unit (9) called Homophone Demons. There will be a word list - our test will be February 19. Fifth graders will continue with Unit 8 vocabulary with worksheets and keepers for this week. Fourth graders will receive their rubric for the book report this week. Important Dates to Remember - Monday, February 15 - A Midsummer Night's Dream - 9:00 in the Hurley Multipurpose Room Math 4: Topic 11: Add and Subtract Fractions - We will complete the unit add and subtract fractions with like denominators and unlike denominators this week. We plan to introduce Topic 12 - Decimals - this week. Singapore Math will take place this week with daily problems and model drawing. Students will receive their February Math Encounters problem. We will then divide into groups to complete our work. Math 5: Singapore Math - daily problems and model drawing this week as well as Math Stars XVI. We will finish a Fraction contract - due Tuesday. If students have any questions, we will answer them on Monday. We will review decimals this week, as well. Students will receive their February Math Encounters problem. We will then divide into groups to complete our work. Third Grade Enrichment: We begin the class with a short unit on creative thinking - Originality will be our key word this week. I am always available to parents. Please email me with any questions or concerns. I post our week's activities by Monday morning of each week, and I post all homework assignments daily. Please check the box on this page to be notified to any change on this website. Homework Assignments: Reading 4/5: Worksheet on Midsummer Night's Dream - due Friday. Work on parts at home! Spelling 4: WS # 75 and 77 Fifth Grade Book Report: START READING!! Fourth Grade Book Report: Receive rubric tomorrow! Writing 5: Vocabulary 5: Unit 8 - Keeper page in notebook and Worksheets (2) are due Friday. Math 4: page 268 (1-4; 7-12) and page 269 (18-22) Math 5: Math Stars - due Friday; Math Encounter answer by Wednesday; and Fraction contract - due Tuesday, February 9. No additional homework tonight!
