Student Council
The Overton Student Council is represented by grades one through five.
The representatives for the 2009-2010 school year are:

First Grade: Lauryn A., Ben B., Maggie E., & Cora S.
Second Grade: Parker C., Caroline C., Elle K., & Linzy S.
Third Grade:  John-Luke D., Koby D., Brian E., Madison E., Alli G.,         David H., Rebecca L., & Bo R.
Fourth Grade: Brooks K., Griffen M., Simon P., Saleema S., Hayley S. & Isabel T.
Fifth Grade: Marcus C., Audrey H., Lara K., DeNariae L., Anthony M., & Nick V.
 

Officers are elected each November and serve a 1 year term.

Current Projects

***** Our next meeting is Feb. 19th in the media center.  We will vote for staff member of the month, sort all of our collectibles, and finish preparing for our big Feb. blood drive.

***** We are working on a lot of year long projects.
** We are still collecting box tops, pop tops, & Campbell's soup labels. This year we will also collect small toiletry items and dish detergent for the Rowan Helping Ministry as well as the battered women's shelter.   We are also collecting bottle caps.  A local church is collecting them to help with chemotherapy payments.  These items will be brought to the meetings each month and sorted.
** We are also still having our Recycle Brigade. Every week, each representative will bring their assigned recycle bucket to the gym to sort.
** The Student Council also chooses a Staff Member of the Month to recognize. The students do this by a secret ballot at each meeting. The lucky staff member fills out a questionnaire and has his/her picture taken. The winner also gets a goody bag full of wonderful gifts ranging from school supplies to coupons to restaurants. A plaque is on display at Texas Roadhouse with our winners' names on it.

Previous Projects


***** We were able to contribute well over 200 cards to be placed in with  the holiday meals provided by Meals on Wheels.

***** Our Salvation Army Canned Food Drive was a huge success.  Due toeveryone who contributed, we were able to collect over 2,750 fooditems.  Isn't that fantastic especially since some of Overton's kids are the ones that need this food the most.


***** Our fourth staff member of the month is Ms. Ginger Morgan.  Congratulations!!!

***** Our third staff member of the month is Ms. Nita Saunders.  Congratulations!!!

***** Our second staff member of the month is Mrs. Stacey Rogers.  Congratulations!!

***** Our first staff member of the month is Mrs. Dinah Carpenter.  Congratulations!!

***** We made almost 200 Thanksgiving cards for Meals on Wheels.

***** We donated $50 to Christmas Happiness.

***** Overton's Student Council did really well at the Service Above Self awards again this year.  In the past 8 years, we've won 6 times and placed in the other 2 years.  These kids are hard workers!!
