Welcome to the 7th Grade and Life Science. 

Attention Parents

Make sure that you ask to see their Science notebook every Friday.  Please sign it over the weekend.  We check it every Monday for a grade. (I will modify the schedule to account for Holidays and other special occations.)

Life Science Classes 

We will be working on the 6 Kingdoms during the 2nd half of the year.  We will be discovering how living organisms are classified.  We are currently working on vertebrates. This unit contains fishes, reptiles, birds and mamals. We should finish this unit by the end of this nine weeks.  Students need to make sure that they have completed all of the chapter study guides to prepare for the chapter test.  We will start on Chapter 12 when we come back from Winter Break.   

Magnet & Gifted Students

Our magnet & gifted students will explore the field of Life Science at a deeper level than the other magnet students.  We will consentrate of the state of Georgia.  We will have several projects that the students will complete during the year that pertain to Georgia's environments and the living components in those environments.

Assignment requirements

Our next project will be a Power point, Web Page, Podcast or Movie Maker of all of the endangered and threatened vertebrates that live in the state of Georgia. 

The requirements & grading are as follows:

1.  Each vertebrate must contain a description of the vertebrate.

2.  Where it can be found in the state.

3.  A picture of the vertebrate must be included. 

4. Reason for being threatened or endangered must be included.

5. Any efforts to improve their numbers.

6. A bibliography must be included for all sources that are used in your presentation.

Grading

Contains information on all  organisms. 30%

Contains an image of each organism.  30%

Contains a bibliography for all sources used. 30%

Quality of Presentation (attractiveness) 10%

  Project Due Date  March 1st 2010.

 

 Skills

 We will consentrate on making sure that each student has completed at least four AR books and passed their AR test.  We will be working on several different things this year.  For those students that are reading below grade level, we will be working on a reading program call SRA for students that need additional help with their reading comprehension.  It is designed to improve a students overall reading skills.
