Title I All-Stars

The Title I motto for this year is:  T.E.A.M.

T - Together

E - Everyone

A - Achieves

M - More

In order for optimal student success, it is crucial that parents and educators work as a team.  I am looking forward to working with you during the 2009-2010 school year.

In order for students to achieve success at school, they must become strong readers. Reading is so important. We need reading for studying math, science, social studies, and so much more. We need to know how to read for almost everything we see and do. It's THAT important!

There are many ways to help your child become a better reader. Below are some helpful tips:

Practice, Practice, Practice - have your child read to you at least 30 minutes EVERY night.

Discuss the stories with your child. Ask "What is the story about?" "Did you like it?" "Why/Why Not?" Ask them to relate the stories to themselves.

Help your child find books on subjects that interest them. Public and school libraries and Scholastic book orders are great places to find books.

Some popular book series are Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House, Horrible Harry, and Captain Underpants.  Older students enjoy Harry Potter, Eragon, and Inkspell books.  These are just a
few ideas. There are so many available.

There are also some great links listed below. Some are for educational sites and there is also a link for activities that directly relate to the weekly stories they are studying in reading class.

Students must also master a list of frequently used "sight words" by the end of the year. I am incorporating these words into lesson plans with the use of flash cards. PLEASE practice these words at home, this, flash cards are a wonderful way to practice learning sight words.

If you have any questions about your child's progress, please do not hesitate to contact me through this website, I check my email everyday. You may also call me at Bostian (704-857-2322, ext. 208). I will be happy to help you in any way I can.
