SCIENCE ![]() WELCOME TO SCIENCE ! Dear BIG DOGS Just remember, as 7th graders you are the role models for the 6th graders. Make this your best year ever. I will be glad to help and do what I can to work with you and your child. Please encourage your child to keep up with all assignments both in class and out of class. When students are absent they know where to find the makeup notebook that has the daily agenda listed. It is their responsibility to get the makeup work. ( Contact numbers at the bottom of my page. ) Thank you , Monica McNeely WHAT IS HAPPENING IN CLASS? Students are required to complete "comp. words" daily. Students record "Composition Words", define the word and we have a short discussion of the meaning and application of the word. These are terms students will use, not only in 7th grade but will also carry over to 8th grade. I will keep their composition books in class, store them over the summer and return them next year when they enter 8th grade. Each student should start the year with EOG vocabulary. SCIENTIFIC METHOD: Followed throughout the year in order to encourage student inquiry and to build a better understanding of subjects studied. As 7th graders many students have had little experience writing, conducting and analyzing a complete lab experiment. It is my hope that your student will be fully prepared to enter 8th grade with a base understanding of what scientific method means. Goal 1 Scientific Inquiry ( STUDENTS WILL FOLLOW GOAL 1 THROUGHOUT THE YEAR ) Students will *Identify and create questions and hypotheses that can be answered through scientific investigations. *Develop appropriate experimental procedures *Apply all safety rules *Analyze variables *Students will be able to observe, conduct, gather data and interpret findings during investigations of various topics throughout the year. *Use oral and written language to communicate findings and defend conclusions *Analyze and evaluate information from various scientific articles, text and current events Essential Questions: How is scientific inquiry important to our society? In what ways has technological design changed over time?
