Welcome to the Visual Arts Program!

The 2009-10 school year will be full of opportunities for students to share their artwork!

On November 5th our school hosted "Trash to Treasure" , a show dedicated to art created from recycled materials.  We all Rowan Salisbury middle schools to participate and had a wonderful display!

In April there are two shows.  April 15 is the opening reception for the Waterworks Student Art Exhibit in Salisbury.  The Carolina Artist sponsored Student Art Show will be held this year from April 22-24, at the Salisbury Civic Center.

The final PTA meeting of the year will be held on May 11.  At that time you can come and see a school wide art show featuring Art Across The Curriculum.  Art is a part of all classes, from illustrations to accompany writing in Language Arts to geometric shapes constructed in Math, and we will celebrate art created in all classes

We hope that you will be able to join us!

The Visual Arts Program is geared to provide learning opportunities for everyone, from the artistically motivated to the person that may never produce art outside the classroom. Together, our goal is to develop skills in the following areas:

~Become more aesthetically sensitive to the natural and human made world.

~ Develop our creative problem solving skills.

~ Find alternative methods for communicating our ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

~ Realize the value of working through and completing a project. ~Develop our individual style and an appreciation for styles that differ from ours.

~ Explore the art of artists both past and present.

~ Develop and improve our art skills.

Assignments:

We will be creating art in the following areas as time allows: Drawing, Collage, Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting, Printmaking, Calligraphy, and Computer Art.

Grading:

Students are often concerned that they will not do well in art because they doubt their artistic skills. Artistic ability is not considered in the grade. Grades are earned based on effort, completion of assignments, neatness, and behavior. A cooperative attitude, willingness to work, and 100% attendance are essential!

I can be reached at the school from 10:15 to 11:30, or after 3:30.  You may leave a voice mail at anytime on extension 501.

Thank you!
