Physical Science Week 18: June 1 - 5 Our EOC is June 5th!!!!!! Exams begin on June 3rd. Monday and Tuesday will be review days in all classes. The exam schedule has review time built into it. Review for each class will be as follows: 5th block has the option of coming from 7:30-11:00 on either the 3rd or 4th of June. First block will have review time from 11:30-1:00 on June 3rd. Second block will have review time from 11:30 - 1:00 on June 4th. Students will be notified of any need to retake exams as soon as grades are returned to us on the 5th. Students who need to retake the exam will have review time from 7:30 - 11:00 and 11:30 - 1:00 on June 8th and all day on June 9th. Exam retakes are on June 10th. There will not be a summer school option for students this year. Buses will run on a normal schedule through June 10th. Week 17: May 26 - 29 Week 16: May 18 - 22 This week we will look at light and sound waves and how they carry energy from one place to another. We will have a test on Friday that covers work, power, energy and waves. Week 15: May 11 - 15 On Monday we began our study of energy. We will look at thermal energy, work and power this week. We will look at light and sound waves next week before taking a test on Friday the 22nd. Week 14: May 4 - 8 Our EOC will be June 5th. We will be starting in class review (for part of class) next week. There will be CATS review beginning May 26. Our egg drop will be May 8. This will be our test grade for Chapter 11 and 12. We have gone through all of our material on motion and forces. We will look briefly at simple machines before beginning the chapters on energy. Week 13: April 27 - May 1 We went over vectors again and started looking at forces. Next week we will complete our egg drop, which will count as our test for the section on motion and forces. We started Newton's Laws this week and will finish them next week. Week 12: April 20 - 24 We will be finishing our study of chemistry with radioactivity. We will go over types of radioactivity and the uses for radioactive elements. There will be a test on Wednesday that will cover solutions, acids, bases and radioactivity. We will start our study of Physics on Thursday with vectors and motion. Test: Wednesday April 22 Week 11: April 13 - 17 This week we will review balancing on Monday and have a short test on Tuesday. We will begin our study of solutions, acids and bases. There will be a lab activity on Wednesday and Friday. April 6: We spent today doing some review of balancing. Week 10: March 30 - April 3 We will begin working on chemical equations. We will look at the different types of equations, learn how to balance equations and complete a lab experiment on reactions. We will spend this week on equations before moving onto acids and bases next week. After that we will look at radioactivity before moving into our study of Physics. The notes for Physics are available for download at the bottom of this page. *The grading period ends on April 1. Week 9: March 23-27 We will be doing practice problems on chemical formulas and naming chemicals. There will be a test on Friday for Chapter 6 only. This chapter is crucial for moving forward into Chapter 7 and 8. Week 8: March 16-20 Began work on bonding. We covered most of Chapter 6 and will spend the next week working on practice problems before having a test. Baby Books were graded. March 30 will be one of the makeup days from the snow 2 weeks ago. Test: Friday 3/27: Chapter 6. Bonding Begin Baby Book projects: Due Friday 3/13 Test on Chapter 4 and 5: Thursday 3/12 Extra Credit due 3/11 We will spend Monday and Tuesday in the computer lab researching our elements for the Baby Book project. Project is due on Friday. Wednesday will be spent reviewing for the test on Thursday. Friday we will begin working on bonding. Week 6: March 2-6 First block will present their scientists on Wednesday the 4th. All of the classes will begin Chapter 5, our study of the periodic table. We will do an activity to try and understand how Mendeleev created the table. We will also review properties of the elemental families and groups. This leads into our study of atomic bonding. We will have a quiz on Chapter 4 on Tuesday. Due to snow days on Monday and Tuesday we did not have a quiz on chapter 4 yet. We did complete chapter 5, however, and are moving forward from that point. Week 5: Feb 23-27 First block is working on presentation for our study of the history of the atom. Second and fifth block are working on timelines for their notebooks. All classes will be going over subatomic particles (protons, neutrons and electrons) and how to draw Bohr models. There will be a quiz on Friday on 18 elements and their symbols. We will finish Chapter 4 in the notes and work on practicing counting particles and drawing atoms. Progress Reports come out on Wednesday. They can be picked up at Open House between 4 and 6 or they will be given to students on Thursday. Week 4: Feb 16 - 20 Finish Boyle's and Charles' Law. Go over phases changes. Review and Test will be on Wednesday for chapters 1 - 3. We will begin Atomic Theory by starting the timeline of atomic history. Week 3: Feb 9 - 13 Began going over States of Matter. Completed a lab on Monday on Physical and Chemical Changes. Lab Report due on Thursday. Students have rubric for completing lab report. Began Boyle's and Charles' Law problems. Week 2: Feb 2 - 6 Took a quiz on Monday on scientific method. Began going over Physical and Chemical Properties. Quiz on Friday on the names and symbols of the first 20 elements on the Periodic Table. Week 1: Jan 26 - 30 Reviewed syllabus; Notes available for download (see link below) for Chemistry section only. Physics will be added later. Lab fee is $10, due ASAP. Went over lab rules, safety contract. Handed out books; books may be kept in the classroom and taken home as needed. Reviewed scientific method and measurement. Completed Chapter 1 notes. Completed measurement lab. Went over scientific notation and conversions. Quiz on scientific method was given on Monday. Went over density |
