Welcome to Mrs. Lofthus' Kindergarten Class

      Dear Kindergarten Family,

           We are thrilled to have your child in our kindergarten class this year!  Entering kindergarten is a big step for your child and for the entire family.  It is an exciting beginning and we want it to be a happy and positive introduction to the school experience. 

           The focus of our kindergarten program will strive to instill in your child a love of school and a desire for learning.  We will plan experiences that will enable your child to:

• make a positive adjustment to school
• learn to be with and work with other children
• develop an interest and joy in learning
• nurture a positive self-image
• develop self control
• encourage creativity and critical thinking skills
• grow in responsibility and citizenship

           There are important ways you can help your child have a positive school experience.  Please keep these in mind:

• see that he/she gets a good night's sleep
• dress your child comfortably in their uniform
• make sure he/she arrives at school on time
• be sure your child gets a good breakfast at home or gets to school on time to eat breakfast
• show an interest in what he/she brings home
• encourage your child to tell you about his/her day
• share positive supportive comments and attitudes about your child's school experience
• remember that your child has his/her own special rate of development unlike anyone else
• keep him/her at home if sick
• label everything that you send to school
• relax and enjoy this exciting year of growth
