![]() Mrs. Still's 3rd Grade Third grade news! Since we are partners in educating your child, communication is very important. Please feel free to contact me by writing in the agenda or email me if you ever have a question or just want to share an idea. I am open to your suggestions! Creating a positive learning environment is an important aspect of my classroom. My objective is to encourage students to make appropriate choices while maintaining a controlled classroom. ![]() Homework Homework is intended to provide independent practice of the skills taught in class. All homework, along with the signed agenda, is due daily of the same week. If special circumstances arise, please let me know by note in agenda or phone call to the school 704-857-3400 Ext 303 and leave a message in my Voicemail. Students should read 20 minutes nightly, place what is read in agenda. Each nights reading is worth 20 points toward a weekly reading grade. Language Arts/Writing: Please make sure that you study the spelling words with your child. We are focused on Inference. Ask your child about some inferring questions, which are not easily answered from the text. Students must think in order to rationalize a good answer. Math: Students will be working with manipulatives. The manipulatives provide hands-on learning experience for the children and make learning fun! Continue to practice math facts at home to develop fluency. Math ideas are everywhere! We are working with multiplication facts and strategies, measurement and soon data and probability. Social Studies: We will be working with relationshships between people and geography. Starting our Unit on The Underground Railroad and February Black History. Biographies is one focus we will be sharing. Science: We will be studying solar system. Continue to read every night for 20 minutes and review math facts for fluency. Also, if your child is sick, do not send them to school. We do not want to put other students at risk. Make sure you review classroom rules with your child. We respect ourselves, respect others, respect learning, and respect property. Remind them of the importance of following rules at school Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have a positive effect on you child's life.
