Nancy Brawley Exceptional Children's Teacher WRMS (704) 633-4775 Ext. 126 2nd. Nine Weeks I am an exceptional children's teacher for Mrs. Pace's 6th grade Language Arts and Mrs. Nussman's 6th grade Math. I also have a Resource 6th and 7th grade Language Arts class. As you can see, I am moving around throughout the day. If your child has one of these classes, I will be there to help the other teachers meet the special needs that your child may have. Your child has an IEP that should be followed in ALL classes. Teachers have been made aware of their modifications and accommodations. Please feel free to contact me if you feel this is not being done. You may ask for a meeting at any time to review or conference about your child's needs. We are a team and can work together to help your child's needs be met! Please see Miss Pace's and Mrs.Nussman's web page for details and topics to be covered in their classes. There are some skills that are able to be taught as a whole group. Each week students will be reading from a novel and completing activities related to the story. Our novel for this 9 weeks is Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiener. Students will have vocabulary exercises and projects for each chapter. For Christmas students will read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. This is a funny Christmas story that students will love. We will watch the movie of the book right before Christmas holidays. On another day of the week students will be practicing Daily Oral Language. This is where they use editing marks to correct mistakes in writing. All the mechanics of writing effective sentences are practiced in this activity. Students will also have a writing journal where various topics are given as prompts. Both grades will read a short story from their literature book or we will read together. We will cover fiction, nonfiction, informative articles, poetry, and much more. When our new computers arrive and are installed we will be implementing a new reading program called READING 180. This is a program that is an intense 90 minute daily activity that can increase a student's reading by one grade level in one year. We are very excited about it! Computers have been purchased and will soon be installed in a lab designated only for this program. The lab will be used throughout the day for at least 60 students who have been chosen as good candidates for this program. Previous scores and percentiles have been studied to make sure this is an appropriate reading tool for your child. I rarely give homework. If I do, you will see in the planner, and it will not be lengthy or time consuming. Students are expected to exhibit good behavior that is conducive to a productive learning environment. Students are recognized and rewarded for good behavior. Each student has an opportunity to earn 1 point a day for each class. A point deduction is taken from students who make poor behavior choices. We strive to provide learning opportunities that will be highly beneficial to our students. Behaviors that interfere with learning goals can not be tolerated. Teachers may "bounce" students from their classrooms if their conduct is interferring with the teaching and learning process. You can contact me at school during my planning time from 12:15-1:50. My number is 704-633-4775 , and my extension is 126. Other Information |
