Exceptional Children's Teacher
WRMS
(704) 633-4775
Ext. 126

I am an exceptional children's teacher for Mrs. Pace's 6th grade Language Arts, Mrs.Rabon's 7th grade Language Arts, and Mrs. Brumley's Language Arts classes. I also have a Resource 8th grade Language Arts class. As you can see, I am moving around throughout the day. If your child has one of these classes, I will be there to help the other teachers meet the special needs that your child may have. Your child has an IEP that should be followed in ALL classes. Teachers have been made aware of their modifications and accommodations. Please feel free to contact me if you feel this is not being done.
You may have another EC teacher who contacts you for meetings or to make changes to your child's IEP. This teacher may or may not teach your child. You may ask for a meeting at any time to review or conference about your child's needs. We are a team and can work together to help your child's needs be met!

Please see Miss Pace's, Mrs. Rabon's, and Mrs. Brumley's web page for details and topics to be covered this nine weeks

6th Block Resource Language Arts

This 3rd nine weeks our class will continue with learning word parts through Wordskills.  We will alternate wordskills with SRA  each week.  We will take a second placement test in SRA to see where each student will begin and what level each is assigned.  The SRA is a great support tool for learning reading strategies to help us on the EOG's in May.   We will also use a workbook focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, and study skills.

A large part of the grading this 9 weeks will be a progect assigned to the entire 8th grade.  Each 8th grader at WRMS is responsible for creating a research paper.  We have already chosen the NC heroes for our class.  The students chose from  a list. We have started the basics in understanding what a research paper is and what it is suppose to tell us.  Each part of the paper will be completed at school with my help.  We want students to be able to create and to know how to write a research paper when they go to high school. Our focus will be on the "how to" more than the content.
We will have access to the library and internet here at school.  Wish us well....we're going to need it!

Each student will  have several writing samples to add to their portfolio each month.
I rarely give homework.  If I do, you will see in the planner, and it will not be lengthy or time consuming.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
and Student "Bounces"

Students are expected to exhibit good behavior that is conducive to a productive learning environment.  Students are recognized and rewarded for good behavior.  Each student has an opportunity to earn 1 point a day for each class. A point deduction is taken from students who make poor behavior choices.
We strive to provide learning opportunities that will be highly beneficial to our students.  Behaviors that interfere with learning goals can not be tolerated. Teachers may "bounce" students from their classrooms if their conduct is interferring with the teaching and learning process.

Student Planners
Students are encouraged to use their planners for every class throughout the day. They are required to write their daily assignments for language arts, at least. The student handbook for WRMS is printed on the first pages of their planners. Parents should refer to this section for helpful information and also review the student's daily entries to be better aware of assignments and requirements. Please feel free to use the planner as a means of communication with me. Simply jot a note and ask your child to bring it to my attention when they come to my class. I'll respond as quickly as possible.

You can contact me at school during my planning time from 2:00-3:15. My number is 704-633-4775 , and my extension is 126.
