February is here and it feels like spring! We have been studying the weather in science and so far we have made it rain in the room, created two tornadoes, made snow and eaten Thundercake! It's been a very interesting unit with lots of new vocabulary words to learn. We begin Camp Good Health on Friday, February 3 with our kick-off in the Media Center. Over the next two weeks, the children will be learning about the importance of good nutrition, exercise and proper dental health. Each kindergarten teacher will teach a unit on each of these subjects and we will be reinforcing all the new concepts during literacy centers in the classroom. Your child will receive his Camp Good Health t-shirt to wear during our unit and a "goodie" bag at the end. Please help us at home by encouraging your child to eat a variety of healthy foods, get plenty of exercise and brush and floss their teeth each day. In reading and Writers Workshop, we will be continuing to work on sounding out words and learning the 25 sight words. In math, the children are learning about the calendar and are practicing counting to 100 and writing the numbers to 31. As always, the homework we send home reflects and reinforces the concepts being taught in the classroom. Please check the calendar for important dates in February!
