Welcome to Ms. Fischers Class Please watch your calenders and listen to ed. connect messages to stay updated on school activities. Also please remember to send children in full uniform everyday. Shirts tucked in and belts on. Children are now receiving consequences for not being in uniform such as silent lunch. Please help your child to remember their responsibility of dressing correctly everyday. As we begin the 2011 school year I just want to say, Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children. They are a joy to work with and we are learning and progressing everyday. It looks like it will be a very busy but productive year. Both the accelerated Reading and Math programs are going well and I have seen improvements in your children's scores. In resource room we are concentrating on lots of reading with the help of SRA and Orton Gillingham reading components. I hope your child is enjoying their year and is anxious to see what we have planned next for them.
There is more uniformity in teacher schedules this year. I am working with most of your children in their classrooms, only a few in resource room, and some of them in both settings. This seems to be working well for most students. Many of the children like the extra help in the classroom and being able to do the same work as their peers. This has helped in keeping the group sizes down also. The pull out groups I do have are anywhere from 2 to 6 children at this time. The children are continuing to receive coins/points for their participation and behavior in the resource room and can trade these points/coins for rewards throughout the year. Ask your child what they have received this year. I have included the sight word flashcards that your child should be able to read and spell by the end of the year. They are divided by grade level. Please remember that a child in first grade should know the K and 1 decks. A child in second grade is responsible for knowing the K, 1 and 2 deck. Please help your child practice and learn these words at home. The more sight words they can learn and remember the easier it will be for them to do the grade level reading they are also expected to do daily. Keep up the good work with helping your children with their studies at home. Encourage your children to read everyday and expand their vocabulary through words and experiences. Make a goal to read everyday for at least 15 minutes with your child. If they see you reading and being supportive of the written word they will spend more time reading and learning the words also. To help some with reading at home I will be enclosing a book order form from scholastic each month with one of your update letters. If you are interested in purchasing books you can send the order and money back to school to me by the due date provided on the form or order yourself online with the registration number for our class which is provided (HMNFK). These book club order forms are for your viewing and you are not obligated to buy anything. When you do order it helps our classroom to earn books for its library also. It has been a good year so far and I hope with your continued support to see all the students excel as the year continues. As a team we can do many challenging feats to help each child reach their capacity. |
