Welcome to my webpage! Scroll down to read some tips for being a successful 5th grader!

1. Be responsible at home!

* Find a quiet place to study.

* Complete all assigned homework on time.

* Be sure to have a parent sign your agenda each night.

* Return Thursday folders on Fridays!

2. Be organized!

* Label all of your notebooks and folders with your name.

* Keep all of your homework assignments in a safe place such as a folder or binder.

* Write all of your assignments in your agenda.

* Check your agenda before you leave school and make sure you have all of your homework assignments.

* Keep the inside of your desk free of clutter.

* Ask for help when you need it.

3. BE A GOOD CITIZEN

* Be kind to your peers, your teachers, the staff and others at Bostain Elementary.

* Respect school property.

* Use good manners in the cafeteria.

* Walk quietly in the halls.

*Look out for your family here at Bostian! Remember a friend in need is a friend indeed!

* Set a good example for younger students.

* Smile!

Math Survival Tips

Ten Steps for Solving Mathematics Problems

1. Whisper read the problem at least two times. Make a mental picture of what you are reading.

2. Circle the key words in the question. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THE QUESTION IS ASKING!

3. Identify and circle/underline the key numbers and labels.

4. Eliminate unneeded data by drawing a line through it.

5. Thoroughly study any graphs, charts, or Venn diagrams.

6. Determine the operation(s)/strategies needed to solve the problem.

7. Solve the problem. SHOW YOUR WORK! (Draw a picture, work backwards, make it simple, etc.).

8. Evaluate the answer. DOES YOUR ANSWER MAKE SENSE? DOES IT ANSWER THE QUESTION(S) ASKED?

9. If an answer sheet is used, check your answers with the answer choices. If your answer is not found, repeat steps one through eight.

10. Bubble in the correct answer in the right space on your answer sheet.
