Welcome to Mrs. Sokolowski's Web Page!

In reading, both fourth and fifth grade students are continuing their studies of poetry and figurative language. Students have the opportunity to extend their studies by completing various research projects that tie in with poems they will be reading or writing a story embedded with proverbs and figurative language. I'm sure the final products will be awesome!

This poetry unit will be followed by an in-depth look at various forms of non-fiction text. The study of this genre is important because it tends to be the type of text  students read the least. If you were to look at a break down of the type of text that students are tested on, over half of it is non-fiction. Parents, take this opportunity to encourage your child to read non-fiction text outside of the classroom. Newspapers, magazines, cookbooks, online articles are just a few examples.

Fifth graders are continuing a thorough study of geometry. Students have loved exploring all the relationships that can be found with lines, angles, and various shapes. This exploration will continue as students learn about characteristics of quadrilaterals and diagonals. Our fourth grade study of geometry is wrapping up and a unit of measurement is soon to begin.

Aspiring to do ordinary things in an extraordinary way to ensure students an extraordinary future!
