Coach Matt Parrish                  Spring 2010-2011 English IV, I Class Expectations

First and Second Periods: UC English I       EOC COURSE

Third Period: College Preparatory English IV

As the third nine weeks (or the first of this semester) comes to a close, students in EOC courses will be given the opportunity to improve grades by completing missed or incomplete work. These assignments will not be given full credit but will nevertheless improve averages. A progress report indicating all missed assignments was sent home weeks ago. All incomplete work was also available on those progress reports. Third quarter grades have been completed and report cards will be issued soon.

Additionally, be prepared for the possibility of attendance/tardy letters which will be shipped out again this week. All students who have missed more than four days will be ineligible for a grade on the report card unless he or she has made up the time in credit restoration. Credit restoration is available on a regular basis after school and is based on additional minutes per absence and tardy. As of this moment, nearly 50% of all of my students in first and second blocks have missed more than the allotted amount of class time.

As for my Seniors:

With a mere sixty odd days until graduation, the semester has been cut in half. At this point students should be finished or nearly finished with their novels for the senior research paper. We have started weekly trips to the library (the second of six this week) and topic research should be well underway. I sent home a sheet with directions and expectations for this paper more than a month ago. IT IS VITALLY IMPERATIVE THAT THESE EXPECTATIONS BE MET. If they are not, the paper cannot be submitted. If the paper is not submitted a student becomes ineligible for graduation. If you have any questions regarding the paper, we can exchange correspondence through email or I can be reached at the school number, extension 215. If you have not seen the sheet concerning the research paper I have extras in my room or can mail them home for a parent or guardian. I have strict guidelines designed to prepare students for the expectations that await them next year.

The first set of note cards for the research paper is due on Wednesday, April 6th by 1:00. Students must have twenty five note cards to earn full credit.

The second set of note cards for the research paper is due to following Wednesday. (April 13th). This set of note cards drops to twenty for full credit.

A REMINDER: If a student submits a paper early, he or she DOES NOT have to turn in the second set of note cards. Not only will that student receive the seven percent bonus for early admission, he or she will also earn a perfect grade for the second set of cards.

If you have any questions or comments please contact me as soon as possible.
