Kindergartners and first graders have been busy working on a variety of literacy skills!  We continue to work on phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency activities in our reading classroom.  We are working on mastery of letters and sounds and applying that knowledge to reading and spelling.

     Please continue to read with your child each night and to work on the "High Frequency Words."  Beginning readers need lots of practice reading themselves, and they also need time to hear a model of fluent reading.

     Second, third, and fourth graders are progressing through the "Direct Instruction" programs of "Reading Mastery" and "Corrective Reading."  Reading practice at home each night is essential to their reading growth, as we continue to focus on decoding and fluency skills.
