*******REMINDER******* Please remember to sign your child's agenda, make sure they have done their homework**CORRECTLY** and they have all of the things they need for school. Beginning in January, our student teacher will start to take over teaching classes. The students are very excited about working with Ms. Marsh. Let's all welcome her to our class. Social Studies: We finished our study of North Carolina History but we will use January to review and make sure we remember everything that we learned. We will assign a State Symbols Project, January 25, 2010. Please look for information coming home that day. Science: We will begin a rocks and Minerals Unit in February. Reading: We continue to use the reading book to learn the skills necessary to be better readers. We focus on genre, reading comprehension, and test taking skills. Students should be reading 30 minutes each night. Please sign on the agenda's bottom section each day. Our small groups are geared to extend and/reteach skills learned and all assignments are checked. So let's remind our students to always stay focused in small groups. Math: We review all concepts learned thus far within our small groups. These concepts are retested regularly, which allows me to refocus groups. Our whole group time has been spent learning about Area and Perimeter. We will test the week of Jan. 15th. Then move into multi-step word problems using multiplication and division. Writing:We just completed one of our Content Writing Pieces. Its focus was Biographies. Our class did rather well. I am pleased. We are currently working on creating our own Pourquoi Tales. This will allow us to have high scores on our next writing test. Tuesdays: Check out all the work your students bring home on Tuesdays in their red folder. Please sign any work that needs signatures and return to school promptly. YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE VERY LITTLE HOMEWORK THIS YEAR. BUT WITH THE NEED TO ALWAYS PRACTICE THE TIMES TABLES AND STUDY FOR SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE TEST YOUR CHILD MUST TAKE AND MAKE THE TIME TO DO THE ADDITIONAL WORK. HOMEWORK REFLECTS ON THE FINAL GRADE IN EACH CURRICULUM AREA. Student Behavior--- If your child earned a letter, it must be initialed by the parent each day. The bottom box in the Agenda must be signed to verify that your child has read for 30 minutes. The letters earned on the behavior report may keep them from attending PBS activities. A list of the behavior letters will be kept in the front pocket of the Agenda for daily reference. Please feel free to contact me via phone, email or letter. I enjoy working with each and every one of you for the success of your child. "Together Everyone Achieves More" Mrs. Alana L. Cherry |
