Welcome to another wonderful school year at Shive. ************ Thank you parents for attending our conference. I am still waiting for a couple of conferences but I enjoyed meeting and talking with each of you. Our Literacy classes have been working hard. We are learning to make inferences and generalizations. Remember to review the vocabulary words for each story because we will always have a vocabulary test at the end of the week. We are finishing up our study of Animal Adaptation. Our trip to Horizons really helped the class have a clearer understanding of how animals adapt to their environment. We will begin a unit on Government and Citizenship for our Social Studies. We will also cover a unit study on Health. This will cover nutrition and how our bodies use energy from foods. *******REMINDER******* Please remember to sign your child's agenda, make sure they have done their homework *CORRECTLY* and they have all of the things they need for school. Please check your child's homework daily. Corrective Reading: Your child may be in a small corrective reading group. This is a fast paced program that will help get your child's spelling and reading skills up to grade level. Tuesdays: Check out all the work your students bring home on Tuesdays in their red folder. Please sign any work that needs signatures and return to school promptly. YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE VERY LITTLE HOMEWORK THIS YEAR. BUT WITH THE NEED TO ALWAYS PRACTICE THE TIMES TABLES AND STUDY FOR SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE TEST YOUR CHILD MUST TAKE AND MAKE THE TIME TO DO THE ADDITIONAL WORK. HOMEWORK REFLECTS ON THE FINAL GRADE IN EACH CURRICULUM AREA. **** Your child has had and will have the same homework schedule for spelling. Mon. - 5 times each, Tues. - definitions, Wed. - Sentences, Thur. - 5 times each and study. Math may be a worksheet that reinforces concepts already taught. Your child should drill multiplication and division facts every day. Also, your child should be reading their weekly story EVERY DAY!!!!! Student Behavior--- If your child earned a letter, it must be initialed by the parent each day. The bottom box in the Agenda must be signed to verify that your child has read for 30 minutes. The letters earned on the behavior report may keep them from attending PBIS activities. A list of the behavior letters will be kept in the front pocket of the Agenda for daily reference. Please feel free to contact me via phone, email or letter. I enjoy working with each and every one of you for the success of your child.
