Welcome to Mrs. Ingold's 4th Grade News ![]() The fourth grade students will all be researching a famous/ notable North Carolinian and will write a biography about the person they researched. They should be choosing a person and starting their research now. Reports are due prior to the Holiday Break. Please feel free to contact me at school at 704-279-2899, my extension is 1419. Or you may write a note in your child's agenda. They are looked at daily. Thanks for all of your assistance so far this year. Classroom volunteers: Our class could use some parents who would listen to a student read during the morning anytime between 8:00 and 10:00. If you could donate an hour or so a week please let me know. We also have games and activities that will need to be put together or cut out. Assessments: I do not like to have all tests on one day. We normally assess math on Wednesday and spelling on Friday. We alternate either a vocabulary quiz or a reading test on Thursdays. Math: Your child should be completing an Accelerated Math assignment at least 2 times a week. They could do one more often for extra math practice. We have been reviewing multiplication facts and your child should know up to their 10s by this week. Please review multiplication facts with your child. Homework: Your child should still be doing some homework every night Monday through Thursday. Please go over their work with them occasionally and ask them to explain how they did it. Looking forward to working with you and your child this year! Sharon Ingold Please check the bottom of our site for flashcards, links to educational websites and other information. Ways to help your childs writing at home are: 1) Share your own writing with your child- for example, notes, shopping lists, e-mail responses, personal or business letters you write. 2) All of my students should be keeping a spy journal recording characters and places they may be able to use in their writing. 3) Ask your child to help with writing that needs to be done in the home-- shopping lists, instructions for baby-sitters, notes to relatives, plans for family outings, plans for the holidays, and directions for visitors. 4) Help your child write thank-you notes, holiday cards, and invitations. 5) Allow your child to keep a car journal for trips or simply a days event such as a visit to the store or park. 6) Encourage your child to write stories and poems to relatives as gifts. 7) Help your child writes letters for various purposes. Maybe they could write to their grandparents, other adult, or a pen pal on a regular basis. 8) Write down and collect family stories into a family book that they can illustrate. 9) Encourage your child to write daily journals at home. 10) Put a bulletin board in a convenient place and use it for messages for the entire family. Please chose one or more of the above ideas for your child to do in the next months before our State Writing Test. It will make a huge difference in their self-confidence and writing ability. Remember that good readers make great writers. READ READ READ read READ read READ read READ |
