Hello everyone! We are off to a busy, but great start to third quarter.  We still have so much to learn.  Thanks for all you do to enhance and support your child's learning.

In Math we are finishing our geometry unit.  Upcoming topics include division, measurement, and graphing.  Please continue to have your child work at the First in Math and Study Ladder sites.  Each child has his/her information in the planner.  Another site to help with fluency of multiplication is Math Magician.  The children enjoy all of these sites because they help make learning fun.  Your child's homework should be coming home daily (See the calendar attached to their Math Homework composition book).  Thanks for all the work you are doing with your child.  Math needs to be meaningful, so the students will understand why they need to learn the material. Take every opportunity to enjoy math during life experiences, whether it's at the ballgame or in the restaurant.  Math is everywhere!

In Science, we had fun learning about our bodies.  Our next unit will be about plants, and will begin with an integration with one of our well-known African Americans, George Washington Carver.

In Social Studies we have been learning about various roles in families and in the community.  We have discussed how things have changed over time.  This has been a lot of fun.  I hope the children are asking you lots of questions.  I look forward to seeing their projects.  We also have a couple guests coming to speak to the children, and have a special day planned to culminate the unit.  More information will be coming home.

Science and Social Students will be taught in approximately 4-week intervals; however, much integration will take place.

See Mrs. Raynes' website about Reading, Spelling, and Writing information.

Thanks for being an active part in your child's education.  If we all work together, your child will be successful!
