Reinholz Class News Welcome To First Grade!! Teacher: Kelly Reinholz Teacher Assistant: Linda Pless Schedule Lunch: 11:10-11:40 Specials: Media - Monday Guidance - Every other Tuesday Computer Lab - Tuesday Art - Wednesday P.E. - Thursday Music - Friday
First grade is a very important year for reading and comprehension. Each night it is extremely important that you read with your child and ask them questions pertaining to the story you read to check for comprehension. Each night your child will have the story for the week to read. On Friday, the students will take a test on the vocabulary words from the story. This test will contain fill-in-the-blank sentences and the students must fit the correct vocabulary word into the sentences. Later, the students will start taking comprehension tests about each story. Spelling Each week your child will receive a list of spelling words. These words are found in the story or are part of the 100 high frequency words taught in first grade. Every Friday a spelling test will be given. I will call out each word and the children must spelling it correctly on their paper. Letters that are not formed correctly will cause the word to be marked incorrect. Please help your child study their spelling words every night by calling out the word and letting them spell it to you and also take some practice tests on paper to make sure your child is forming their letters correctly. Math In the first grade, the students must be able to read the number words 1 to 100 by the end of the year. Each quarter we work on 25 of the words. So, this first quarter we will be working on 0 to 75. A practice number word assessment will be sent home for you and your child to practice. It would be a great idea to write each number word on an index card so your child can practice reading the number words. Addition and subtraction facts are another important part of first grade math. We expect the students to recall these facts very quickly. Addition and subtraction flash cards will be sent home soon to practice. The students are taking 45 second timed addition and subtraction tests. JanuaryCalendar:
