Welcome to Mrs. Lefko's Webpage Mrs. Pless and I have enjoyed teaching all of you. It has been an awesome year. We will look forward to seeing all of you in August! We love you! Enhancement Schedule Tuesday-Computer Lab-1:30-2:00 Wednesday-Music-1:30-2:00 Thursday- P.E.-11:40-12:10 Thursday-Media-1-30:2:00(every other week) Thursday-Guidance-1:30-2:00(every other week) Friday-Art-1:30-2:00 Lunch-10:35-11:05(daily) Reading First Grade is a very important year for reading! Your child should be bringing home their reading book everyday to read the assigned story. There will usually be a worksheet for homework too. Please be sure to study the vocabulary words in the agenda to be ready for a vocabulary test which is usually given on Fridays. Spelling Each week there will be a new list of spelling words in the agenda. These words are part of the 100 high frequency words taught in first grade or found in the reading story. The spelling test will usually be given on Fridays.
Math In the first grade, the students must be able to read the number words 1 to 100 by the end of the year. Each quarter we work on 25 of the words. So, the fourth quarter we will be working on 76 to 100. We will also review 0 to 75. A practice number word assessment will be sent home for you and your child to practice. It would be a great idea to write each number word on an index card so your child can practice reading the number words. Addition and subtraction facts are another important part of first grade math. We expect the students to recall these facts very quickly. The students are now taking timed addition tests several days a week. They should be studying their addition flashcards at home to help with this.
I hope you will work with me to help your child have a great first grade year! ![]() |
