Welcome to Mrs. Trexler's webpage!

Learning in Kindergarten is fun!

Our ZooPhonics reading program has really been enjoyed from the children.  This fun learning envirornment has created a lot of success with in our classroom.  Most of our children know all their letter sounds.  This is so important when trying to build a good foundation for future reading.

Now it's time to continue to grow with our reading skills.  We are working on blending sounds and how to sound out unknown words.  Building rhyming words is beneficial to reading growth as well. The children are learning High Frequency Words.  These words will be commonly used words that children will learn to read as they see them.  We will also be learning to spell these words by the end of the year.

We will now begin to focus on leveled reading groups.  We want each child to feel successful no matter what level they may be on.  We are also going to be doing reading projects.  After reading each assigned word list correctly, your child earns a certificate.  They will progress at their own pace.  The excitement they show when they complete a reading list is very rewarding!

In writing, we are working on writing each letter correctly and neatly.  In story writing, the children are learning to draw detailed pictures with characters and setting.  They will also be learning to write a sentence to go along with their picture.  We do understand that they will not be able to spell all the words correctly.  It is more important to us that they learn to sound the words out, leave spaces between each word, and use capitals and punctuation correctly. We would love to see every child be able to draw a picture and write atleast 2 sentences about it!  Work on it, you can do it!

In Math, our goal for this year is for each child to count to 30, identify numbers to 30, and write numbers in order and out of order to 30.  If this goal is met, we would love for them to strive to go to 100!!  Sorting, graphing, making patterns, and learning about shapes are important skills in kindergarten.
