Welcome to Mrs. Trexler's webpage!

Learning in Kindergarten is fun!

It's so exciting to see the efforts and excitement that our students are showing at this time.  They are very eager to learn and we are so proud of them.

Reading Skills

At this time we are expanding our ZooPhonics reading skills. ZooPhonics is a fun and exciting way for children to learn the letter sounds while learning about each zoo animal that represents the letters.  ZooPhonics is able to reach out to many different learning styles and we have already seen a lot of success with our students.  If your child does not know the letter sounds, please spend some time practicing this very important skill.  It is the foundation of reading.
For those students who know all their letter sounds, we are working on letter names and how to write each letter correctly.

Reading Homework:

Take some time to read to your child each night. Your child will be bringing home a leveled reading book each night. Please take time to help your child with this book and enjoy reading with them each night. You would be amazed at how spending this reading time with your child could enhance their reading abilities!

High Frequency Words:

Below is a list of 25 high frequency words that your child should be able to read and spell by the end of the year.  It would be a great idea to begin working on these words a little at a time.  We will be assessing each child at various times during the year on their ability to read and spell these words.

In writing, we are working on writing each letter correctly and neatly.  In story writing, the children are learning to draw detailed pictures with characters and setting.  They will also be learning to write a sentence to go along with their picture.  We do understand that they will not be able to spell all the words correctly.  It is more important to us that they learn to sound the words out, leave spaces between each word, and use capitals and punctuation correctly. We would love to see every child be able to draw a picture and write atleast 2 sentences about it!  Work on it, you can do it!

In Math, our goal for this year is for each child to count to 30, identify numbers to 30, and write numbers in order and out of order to 30.  If this goal is met, we would love for them to strive to go to 100!!  Sorting, graphing, making patterns, and learning about shapes are important skills in kindergarten.
